David Alan Tomlinson, of Cartwright, passed away in Durant, Oklahoma on August 13, 2025, at the age of 64. He was born in Durant on February 22, 1961, to Joseph John and Mary Latrelle (Corbitt) Tomlinson. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother whose vibrant spirit and loving nature left a permanent mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
David's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was the cherished husband of Lisa (McGahey) Tomlinson, with whom he shared a loving marriage since February 12, 1988. Together, they built a family that was his pride and joy.
For 36 years, David served with courage and dedication as a firefighter. Starting his career in Howe, Texas, then Burleson, Texas, and finally the Colbert Fire Department. An accomplishment for which he was very proud. His commitment to the safety and well-being of others earned him not only respect but also deep affection from those who worked alongside him.
A true jack-of-all-trades, he found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was known for his playful teasing and willingness to do anything for his kids and grandkids. David radiated love for his family, always ensuring that each person was cared for and never without a jacket. Riding his Harley across the open roads brought a sense of freedom that he treasured deeply. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace in the stillness of nature and the thrill of the catch. David also loved music, and it played a significant part in his life.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lisa Tomlinson of the home, daughter Rebecca Whitehurst and her husband Dean of Durant; son Woodrow Caleb Tomlinson and his wife Lauren of Alvarado, Texas; grandchildren Anthony Babb and wife Sunshine of Calera, Savannah Babb of Kingston, Sierra Babb of Durant, Kyra Whitehurst of Atoka, and Jackson Babb of Durant; and great-grandchildren Alayna Babb, Phoebe Babb, Charley Babb, and Azriel Hudson. He is also survived by his mother, Latrelle Johnson, his brother Joe Tomlinson, and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Tomlinson, and his cherished aunt Martha Jo and uncle Woodrow.
Family Hour will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. A memorial service to honor David’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Colbert Fire Department.
