Thank You For Your Service!

Leon Foster Timberlake

August 8, 1921 ~ October 27, 2002

Services will be held at Union Cemetery on Friday, November 1, at 1:30 p.m., for Lee Timberlake, 81, who passed away October 27, 2002, in Bakersfield. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Central Church of Christ.

Lee was born August 8, 1921, near Caddo, OK. He was educated in Oklahoma schools and moved to California as a young man. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served until his discharge in 1945. In 1946 Lee and his family moved to Maricopa, California, where he worked for Maricopa City Schools as a bus driver. He was active in all recreational sports, including baseball, basketball and softball.

Lee went to work for Standard Oil Co. of California in 1949. In 1950, he was transferred to the Bakersfield Kern River Refinery where he worked as a refinery operator, retiring in 1981 from Chevron with 32 years of service.

Lee was a long-time member of the Church of Christ where he had many friends. He volunteered countless hours at the Church and worked many years with the Noahs Ark Preschool, which was a ministry of the Church. Also an avid golfer, he enjoyed many days on Kern County golf courses. He also liked gardening and keeping his home in good repair. Lee wanted to be remembered as a man who loved children, God, his home, family and Country.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Browning and husband, Don of Turlock, CA; daughter, Ann Richardson and husband, Gary and grandchildren, Daniel, Molly and Ted of Bakersfield; brother, J.P. Timberlake of Maysville, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. Many special friends include the families of Mark and Katie Turner, Fred and Barbara Ansolabehere, and Laurance Ramey.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 31, from 2 to 8 p.m., at Mish Funeral Home.
