Omar Franklin Thompson Sr.

Omar Franklin Thompson Sr.
March 20, 1943 ~ October 19, 2020

Omar Franklin Thompson Sr., 77, passed peacefully on 19 October 2020 with his family by his side after a short battle with ALS. Omar was born 20 March 1943 in Newby, OK to Grover and Mary Thompson.

At 15, Omar met Linda Thompson at Stonewall Jackson Junior High. Two years later, Omar married Linda on 22 June 1960 in Ridgeland, SC. Shortly thereafter; they welcomed their first child, Linda Lanina, on 26 September 1960 in Savannah, GA. On 5 January 1963, they had their second daughter, Londa Lynn, in Oklahoma City, OK. Three years later came Omar Franklin Jr., back in Savannah on 27 October 1966. In 1969, they adopted their niece, Jamie Witslena, completing their family.

Omar and Linda moved wherever the wind blew – Texas, Georgia, Florida – wherever Omar’s work took them. Omar was a skilled plumber and welder and a proud member of UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 344. Omar worked on the Hatch nuclear power plant in Baxley, GA and moved back to Oklahoma in 1978 to work on the General Motor’s Oklahoma City Assembly plant. In the years to come, Omar and Linda’s family grew by marriage, birth/adoption of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Omar is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda, his parents Grover & Mary Thompson, Bill & Latha Bailey Sr., and siblings, Tommy & Tinie Bailey, and Billie Knox. He is survived by siblings, Latha & Lee Adams, Carolyn Wren; children, Jamie & Harold Howard, Lanina & Richard Starks Jr., Londa & Keith Jackson Sr., Omar & Cassie Thompson Jr.; grandchildren, Bilinda & Tony Sikes, Stephen Howard, Richard & Tara Starks, Timothy & Eileen Starks, Keith & Kenna Jackson II, Elijah Stribling, Xylia & Jesse Ramirez, Lauren & Andi Kabuci, Carmon & Mason Drumm, Ty Procell; great-grandchildren, Joey & Jordan Sikes, Ashton & Zoey Howard, Hayden & Jed Starks, Easton & Hudson Starks, Ellie & Sena Kabuci, Dylan Drumm, Stephen & Evangeline Procell; many nieces and nephews; and his loving pooch, Scruffy.

Omar would make any excuse to be on the water, from shrimping in the Atlantic to fishing on Lake Eufaula, being on his boat with his family was his happy place. Omar loved his family, building anything Linda thought up and OU football. Omar took pride in everything he did, and he always knew the right way to do it.

A memorial service will be held to remember and celebrate Omar's life on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 1:00PM at Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond, OK.
