Ellen Francis Thompson

Ellen Francis Thompson
May 22, 1921 ~ February 04, 2016

Ellen Francis Thompson - "Miss Ellen", age 94 of Guthrie, Oklahoma, a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ, passed away February 4, 2016.

Ellen was born on May 22, 1921 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Andy Elias and Susan Ida Bettis Thompson. She grew up in Texas and graduated from Yoakum High School in Yoakum, Texas in 1939. She attended a business school and worked in Sinton, Texas for a few years. She moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1946 to be the secretary at Kelham Avenue Baptist Church. She has shared with her family that the role of secretary was more than a job; it was a calling of service from God. She worked at Kelham for 8 years before moving to be the secretary at Crestwood Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. She faithfully served at Crestwood for over 56 years, retiring on her 90th birthday. During that time she served under nine pastors and many other staff members. To the Crestwood family she was more than just a secretary. Having no children of her own, she took each church member and treated them as if they were hers. She greatly impacted the lives that she touched.

While her life was dedicated to her church family, she also enjoyed sewing. Aside from making clothes for herself, she made over 100 dresses a year that she would give to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children for a number of years. She also enjoyed cooking. She cooked Wednesday evening meals for the church for many years also. A highlight of each year since the early nineteen eighties, and the only few days of vacation she would take, were trips to Texas for the Thompson family reunions where she enjoyed catching up with family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jeff Bettis Thompson, a sister Mary Louise Glenewinkel, and a niece Becky Jones.

She is survived by her brother Pascal "Pat" Dietz Thompson of Fredericksburg, Texas, and a sister M. Aylene Hartley of Guthrie, Oklahoma. Also surviving are the following nieces and nephews: Donny Thompson of Kermit, Texas; Idabeth Armstrong of Odessa, Texas; Emily McElveen of Crane, Texas; Michael Thompson of Fredericksburg, Texas; Patty Apple of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Keven Hartley of Wichita, Kansas; Paul Hartley of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Paula Springs of Seguin, Texas; Jill Glenewinkel of Kingsbury, Texas; Doug Glenewinkel of Kingsbury, Texas; Ward Glenewinkel of Kingsbury, Texas; Heidi Nereson of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. She is survived by many great- nieces and nephews and several great -great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 8, 2016 at First Southern Baptist Church, Guthrie with Lawrence Justice officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM at China Spring Cemetery, China Spring, Texas. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 54, Guthrie, OK 73044.

Visitation will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
