Owen James Tharp

Oct. 12, 1940 ~ April 4, 2013

ENID - Owen James Tharp, 72, of Enid, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013.

A private family service will be held. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Owen was born Oct. 12, 1940, in Anthony, Kan., to Glen and Fayella Philbrick Tharp.

He grew up in the Gore and Hawley areas and graduated from Nash High School in 1958.

On July 25, 1964, Owen married Martha Murray in Wichita, Kan., where they made their home.

The family moved to Waukomis in 1971. Owen worked as a corrections officer for Oklahoma Department of Corrections at Helena. He retired in April 2009.

Owen and Martha moved to Enid in 2008. He was a member of Bethel Hawley Baptist Church. Owen enjoyed hunting deer and quail, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elvin; and sister, Elda Dumas.

Owen is survived by his wife, Martha of the home; children and their spouses, Brenda and Michael Stover, Wichita, Kan., Larry and Michelle Tharp, Alva, and Karen and Russell Bowling, Douglas; five grandchildren, Tim Kornele, Taylor Tharp, Dustin Stover, Kaitlyn and Jacob Bowling; brother-in-law, Bill Dumas; sister-in-law, Donna Tharp; and other relatives and friends.
