November 19, 1953 ~ January 25, 2025

Leonard Leon Terry, Jr., of Durant, passed from this life into Heaven while surrounded by family on Saturday, January 25, 2025. He was 71 years old. He was born on November 19, 1951, in Wellpinit, Washington to Leonard and Ramah (Jackson) Terry. On October 1, 2016, Leonard married Kathy Mullens in Durant, Oklahoma.

Leonard graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a master’s degree in counseling. He dedicated his training to helping others by working as a counselor in Mental Health Services. He also worked as a counselor for the Celebrate Recovery program at First Baptist Church in Durant. Leonard was a member of First Baptist Church in Durant, where he not only served others, but where he found faith and fellowship among his church family. Outside of his service to others, Leonard had many pastimes he enjoyed, including loving all kinds of music. He was an avid baseball fan, playing for the American Legion. This love of baseball led him to collect baseball cards. Leonard also enjoyed bowling and playing in a league.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Kathy Terry of Durant, Oklahoma, and his sister Darla Atchley and her husband Larry of Prosper, Texas. His legacy lives on with his nieces and nephews including Joshua David Wright of Wilson, Oklahoma, Warren Lee Wright of Conroe, Texas, Lindsey Nycole Weatherl of Midland, Texas, and Natalie Brooke Martin of Richardson, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Ramah Terry, and his sister Lynna Wright.

Friends and family will gather during his Family Hour on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Durant. A Celebration of his Life will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Garry McNeill officiating.

Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Ron Wallace, Josh Wright, Warren Wright, Brian Sterbenz, and TJ Trantham.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Celebrate Recovery, First Baptist Church, 124 Evergreen St., Durant, Oklahoma 74701, or to The Gideons International, Bryan County Gideons, P.O. Box 576, Durant, Oklahoma 74701.
