Herman L. Teel

Aug. 18, 1911 ~ April 22, 2002

Herman L. Teel, 90, of Amarillo died Monday, April 22, 2002.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with his grandson, Steven L. Teel, pastor of Northern Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio, officiating. Private family burial will follow.

Mr. Teel was born Aug. 18, 1911, at Welch, Okla. He attended John Brown Academy in Siloam Springs, Ark., and graduated from Northeastern State Teachers College in Tahlequah, Okla., in 1932. He married Esther Lowene "Pat" Rice in 1934, and they have been married 67 years.

In 1936 he moved to Tulsa, Okla., and worked for Safeway Stores for 12 years. In 1946 he began a 30-year career with Stanolind Oil and Gas, now BP Amoco. He retired from Amoco Research Center in 1976.

He was a longtime member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa and joined St. John's Methodist Church when he moved to Oklahoma City after retirement. He was active in his church and travel club.

They moved to Amarillo in 1997 and resided at the Craig Methodist Retirement Community. He attended St. Stephen United Methodist Church until his death.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Teel and wife, Alice, and Ken Teel and wife, Barbara; four grandchildren, Kathy Langford and husband, Rob, Steve Teel and wife, Kris, Andy Teel and wife, Laura, Tracy Schaller and husband, Mark; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Very Bold Ministries, 15919 Watering Point Drive, San Antonio, TX 78247, an evangelistic nonprofit founded by his grandson, Steve; or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Affiliates, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
