Shirley (Whitten) Taylor

August 23, 1937 ~ May 30, 2008

Shirley Whitten, Fountain, Yeager, Taylor was greeted by her Heavenly Father on 30 May '08. Shirley was born the youngest of five children to Robert Edwin and Mamie Frances Whitten on August 23, 1937 in Atlanta, GA.

She was raised in Barnesville, GA where she met and married Tom Fountain. Shirley came to Oklahoma as an Air Force wife and raised their two sons in Del City. Oklahoma is where she met her dearest and best friend Ricci Richardson. Ric and Shirley shared so much of life, from the day of their birth, their motherhood, grandchildren, travels and their most favorite activity-shopping.

Shirley married Dr. Douglas Yeager in February of '79 and they shared a wonderful life and many travels together until his death.

John Taylor came into Shirley's life and they were married in January of '99. Shirley and John shared their love of golf and have traveled the states playing as many courses as they could.

Diagnosed with lymphoma in '01 Shirley has lived life to the fullest and never let cancer inhibit her life, her joy of Christmas, her travels nor her game of golf. Shirley leaves with us her strength, her faith in GOD, her music and memories to comfort us in years to come. Her generosity and her ability to sit at the piano playing by ear are just two of the ways she made life better for everyone; she was a terrific lady.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother Edwin, sister Ruth and husband Doug Yeager.

She is survived by her husband, John; sons, Gene Fountain, his wife Robyn and their children Katie and Caleb of MWC; Jeff Fountain, his wife Brenda and their children Garrett and Wyatt of OKC and Carly Fountain-Hobbs, husband Ronnie and Shirley's first great-grandchild Zaden. Two sisters Miriam Howard and husband CB of Locust Grove, GA and Pat Brown and husband Alfred of Musella, GA.; stepchildren Tate Taylor of OKC and Michelle Raffety of Houston, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and scores of cherished friends from her travels near and far.

A true Southern Lady, Shirley had the strength and determination of a full blood Georgia Bulldog. Her love and kindness will live in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at Northwest Baptist Church in OKC on Tuesday, June 3, '08 at 10:00am.
