Peggy Ellen (Moore) Burkhart Taylor

November 9, 1939 ~ February 6, 2022

Peggy Ellen Moore Burkhart Taylor, 82, went to Heaven on Sunday, February 6, 2022, in Watauga, Texas.

She was born November 9, 1939, to J.H. and Joy Moore in Humpreys. She lived in Jackson County until the death of her father during World War II. Her mother then married Lloyd Crelia and the family eventually settled in Marietta. She graduated from Thackerville High School in 1957.

Peggy started at a young age keeping house and raising children. Being the oldest of six, she was the housekeeper, cook, and chief bottle washer watching over and guiding four of her younger siblings. Peggy moved to Texas after marrying and graduating in 1957. Watauga was her final home.

She was an accomplished seamstress who sewed for the public in the home at night and worked as a secretary by day. She made everything from dresses and men's shirts to high school drill team/cheerleader uniforms, wedding dresses, pageant dresses, and even tuxedos for her sons. People came from all over to have her make their clothes. In her later years the only thing she made was baby blankets for every grandchild and nieces and nephews.

Peggy had a hand in all her children's weddings. She made her daughter's wedding dress and the bridesmaids' dresses. She made the bridesmaids' dresses and the tuxedo for Jeff's wedding and the bride's dress for Kevin's wedding. All three of her children can run a sewing machine. Both boys know how to do minor sewing repairs. She made her last creation in the spring of 2019 when her granddaughter asked her to make her wedding dress.

Her home was always open to friends and family. At some time in their lives, her brothers and sisters came to live with her. Even grandchildren lived with Peggy at some point. Sometimes alone - sometimes with their families. She took care of her parents and her mother-in-law in her home. It was nothing for her to drive to Oklahoma, pick up her Grandmother Jones and go to Illinois to help a cousin who just had/or was having a baby or was getting married.

Family was important to her. She taught her children to love others and made sure they attended church. She thought nothing of getting them up on Sunday morning and driving to Oklahoma to be in church to hear Bunch "Pa" Burkhart preach.

She was there to see every grandchild born. She loved every one of them equally - and she didn't hesitate to paddle their little bottoms when they needed it.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Taylor; parents, J.H. Moore, Joy Crelia and Lloyd Crelia; and brothers, Billy Moore, Eddy Crelia, and Tommy Crelia.

Survivors include her three children, Kimberly (Jerry) Killion, Jeffrey (Kim) Burkhart, and Kevin Burkhart, all of Watauga; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathy Kelly of Marietta and Polly Phillips of Ardmore; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at the Glenview Church located at 4805 N.E. Loop 820 in Haltom City, Texas.

This obituary included a photo of Mrs. Taylor.
