James Gibson Taylor, 101-year-old Afton resident, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at his home. James was born on October 23, 1924, in Porum, Oklahoma to Zacharyer Jefferson Taylor and Rebecca J. Gibson Taylor. James was married to Cheryl Taylor, who preceded him in death. He lived in the Okmulgee area until moving to Afton approximately 20 years ago. James worked for the Tulsa Transit Authority as a bus driver many years. He enjoyed going fishing and working in his garden.
He was preceded by his parents, wife and all his siblings two sisters and seven brothers.
The family includes his children, Ronnie Taylor, Janie Higgins, and Jimmie Kay Hernandez all of Broken Arrow; numerous grandchildren, including Tanisha Smith of Afton.
