Mildred Pauline (McIntire) Tackett

Mildred Pauline (McIntire) Tackett
July 25, 1936 ~ January 20, 2023

Mildred Pauline (McIntire) Tackett passed away January 20, 2023, in Bartlesville Okla at the age of 86. Pauline, as she was known to all, was the youngest of Orval Edward and Mae Ann (Yocom) McIntire’s six children. Pauline was born at home in the greater Splitlog, Missouri area on July 25, 1936. Pauline married Victor Earl Tackett Jr. on May 5, 1957. They made their home in Borger Texas before being transferred with Phillips Petroleum Company to Bartlesville in the summer of 1967.

Pauline studied nursing, becoming a diploma RN upon graduation from St. John’s Nursing school in 1957. She began her professional career at Memorial Hospital as House Supervisor and later opened the Psychiatric Department as the Charge Nurse. As Memorial Hospital combined with Jane Phillips Episcopal-Memorial Medical Center she served as House Supervisor and Nurse Manager of One Day Surgery at Jane Phillips. During this time, she continued her education, graduating from Pittsburgh State University with a BSN. Upon her “retirement” she continued at Jane Phillips guiding them through the national accreditation program.

All that is good and well, but who was she? Her classmates gave this quote in her 1954 High School annual, “A successful combination of hard work and fun.” One of her sons called her the “Mayor of the Hospital”. Decades after her retirement, frequently at the store or on rare occasions at the hospital for a procedure, without fail numerous folks would come to her to give a hug and a testimony about the influence and impact Pauline had on their personal and professional life. Without fail you would hear them say, “she was tough, but fair” and “she is the reason I believed I could be a success”.

Firm in her faith in our Lord, Pauline had a strong testimony of her belief in Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She built a wonderful home for her husband and two sons; she was the center of our family and filled every corner of our lives. She was a loving Grandmother to five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Pauline was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Gerald Dale McIntire, Everett Lee McIntire, Phillip Raymond McIntire, and sisters Ida Maxine McIntire Dorsey and Nina Lorene McIntire Olsen.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, William Edward Tackett, his wife Teresa Lynn Tackett and Robert Earl Tackett and his wife Kandi Darlene Tackett. Pauline was blessed by five grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Tackett Davenport of Beaumont Texas, Amanda Kay Tackett Thacker of Abilene Kansas, Victor Murray Tackett of Owasso Oklahoma, Megan Pauline Tackett Mayes of Chandler Oklahoma, and Laura Elizabeth Tackett of Edmond Oklahoma along with eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 26th in Galena Kansas, at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request you make donations to the charity of your choice
