David Eli Swidler

David Eli Swidler
July 17, 1929 ~ November 23, 2017

David Eli Swidler, 88, of Oklahoma City, died Thursday, November 23, 2017, in Oklahoma City. The son of Jankiel and Nechama Swidler, he was born July 17, 1929, in Poland.

David was a Veteran of the United States Army and served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. He married Barbara Ann Gaston on August 1, 1958, in Oklahoma City. In his early life, he worked as a cameraman for KWTV Channel 9. David then went to work as a police officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department for 20 years and then went to work as a security officer for OPUBCO for 17 years before retiring. In his spare time, David enjoyed bowling and watching Texas Ranger baseball and Dallas Cowboy football. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sonya; and a brother, Jonah.

David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Swidler of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Lori Janway and husband, Tracy, of Oklahoma City; two sons, Scott Swidler and wife, Sherry, of Bridge Creek, and Steve Swidler of Mustang; five grandchildren, Ashley Lee and husband, Patrick, of Tuttle, Corey Swidler of Bridge Creek, Kylie Swidler of Bridge Creek, Savannah Janway of Oklahoma City, and Chance Janway of Oklahoma City; two great grandchildren, Jayce and Stetson; one sister, Hayah of Israel; one brother, Sol and wife, Lea, of California; and many other loved ones and friends.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
