Clarence Alfred "Fred" Swanson Jr.

Clarence Alfred "Fred" Swanson Jr.
May 20, 1947 ~ November 11, 2017

Clarence Alfred "Fred" Swanson Jr., 70, of Bartlesville, died suddenly Saturday in Bartlesville.

Fred was born the son of Clarence Alfred "Swede" Sr. and Lupe (Cornejo) Swanson on May 20, 1947, in Bartlesville. A lifelong resident of Dewey and Bartlesville, Fred worked for his father's Sinclair station and car wash in Dewey while growing up. Fred graduated with the College High Class of 1965. He met the love of his life Cathey Ann Woodworth at a social event. After a year of dating they were united in marriage on March 16, 1968, in Bartlesville and they made their home in Dewey for a few years before settling in Bartlesville. Fred worked various jobs in masonry and concrete before starting his 40 year career with National Zinc retiring in 2010.

Fred was a good natured guy who loved to laugh, known for his sense of humor and lifelong love for harmless pranks. While his boys Dane and Brandon were growing up, Fred coached their ball teams and earned the nickname "Free Bird." He encouraged his sons to be good fathers and gave helpful advice, whether they asked for it or not.

Later in life Fred enjoyed working on his rental properties and became personally interested in his tenants' lives. He was particularly known for his freshly baked Thanksgiving rolls that he labored on for hours until Cathey let that cat out of the bag. Fred loved to give gifts to his family, usually items that were wants versus needs like a case of pop or candy for the grandkids, and usually these items just appeared when they were needed most. Fred had a special bond with each of his friends and loved spending time with them. Most of all Fred was a wonderful grandfather who spoiled his grandchildren, spending precious time with them and entertaining them.

Fred is survived by his loving wife Cathey of the home; two sons Dane Swanson and Bonnie Cawley, and Brandon Swanson and Darcy, all of Bartlesville; father Swede and Marjorie Swanson of Bartlesville; four sisters, Elaine Hamilton and Luther of Longview, TX, Anita "Bunny" Favors and Terry of Grove, OK, Kathy Swanson of Dewey, and Becky Tate and Mike of Alabaster, AL; four grandsons, Cameron Cruz, Gage, Eli and Mitch; one great granddaughter June; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and one sister Gloria Swanson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-8. Fred's family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Wednesday, November 15, from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hopestone Cancer Support Center, 206 SE Frank Phillips Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74003.

Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Fred's family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com
