Chipman Gray "Chip" Stuart

Chipman Gray "Chip" Stuart
March 31, 1932 ~ March 1, 2012 (age 79)

Stuart, Chipman Gray "Chip" was born in Kernersville, North Carolina on March 31, 1932 as the middle son of Charles and Annabelle Stuart.

Chip left high school at 15 to help the family financially, subsequently joining the Air Force at 18 as an airplane mechanic.  After training he was stationed at San Marcos, Texas where a friend encouraged him to enroll at San Marcos College.  After finishing his tour of duty and earning a teaching degree, he began a teaching career that was to span more than 40 years.  He first worked as an Industrial Arts teacher at Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, and later after completing a PhD from the University of Texas, was a Professor at the University of Oklahoma in the College of Education for more than 20 years.

Chip was married to Lynne Miller Stuart and was the proud father of four children, Kerry Gray of Austin, TX, Ryan Falls and wife Sarah of Harlingen, TX, Lee Jennings and husband Andrew of Los Angeles, CA and Whitney Allen and husband Dan of Ann Arbor, MI.  He was the proud stepfather of Mindy Miller and husband Eric Weig of Montrose, CO, Holly McCarty and husband Jay of Norman, OK and Steve Miller and wife Tiffany of Detroit, MI.  Chip loved being a grandfather as well and was "Papa Chip" to 13 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, John Stuart and Charles "Mac" Stuart.

Chip was an avid hunter for many years and a dog enthusiast.  He loved flying airplanes, riding motorcycles, and studying antique cars and trucks.  He had a talent for collecting and refurbishing old furniture and remodeling old houses.  He could fix just about anything.  In recent years he took up jewelry making and delighted in giving his creations away.

Memorials may be made in memory of Chipman Gray "Chip" Stuart to the charity of your choice.

Chip will be missed by family and friends alike.  He was a beloved educator, mentor, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Bayside, Texas.
