Mellie (Grover) Stone
September 24, 1914 ~ April 11, 2014

Mellie Stone was born September 24, 1914 at Erick, Oklahoma to Ollie Mae and Vernon Richard Grover. She passed away April 11, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 17 days.

As a small child, Mellie moved with her family to Colorado where they filed a claim in Springfield, Colorado and lived in a half dug out. The family later returned to Oklahoma and lived in Erick until moving to Sweetwater. It was there she met Leo Stone and they were married on September 24, 1933 at Mayfield, OK. They made their home near Sweetwater where they farmed and raised their family. After Leo's passing, she remained on the farm until 2001 then moved to Burns Flat to be near her daughter.

Mellie was a long time member of the Buffalo Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Vina Pearl Davis, and a son, Ivan Ray Stone, 2 grandsons, Paul Davis and Keith Stone, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Reva Greer and husband, John, Burns Flat, OK, 2 sisters, Roberta May, Waterloo, AL, Colleene Tharp, Ft. Worth, TX; 7 grandchildren, Debra Davis Townsend and husband, Jerry, Rae Lynn Stone, Johnnie Greer, Jerry Stone, Rocky Greer and wife, Coletta, Darla Davis McDowell and husband, Mark, Randy Greer and wife, Karen, 13 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, a special friend, Debbie McManaman, and a host of other relatives and friends.
