ENID, Okla. ~ Imogene Staten was born June 22, 1923, the daughter of Walter E. Johnston and Helen Garrison Johnston.

She attended school in Pond Creek and enjoyed taking part in many school activities, appearing in many musical plays and various talent competitions. She was a member of the high school band, girls' Glee Club, girls' quartet, and a special trio that occasionally sang on the radio from a station in Enid.

After their marriage ended, Imogene met and later married Dean W. Nourse of Oklahoma City. They both worked for the state of Oklahoma at Department of Transportation. Mr. Nourse retired in 1983. He died suddenly in December 1984.

Imogene retired in 1987 and married Harold Staten of Tryon, Okla., the following year. The Statens made their home in Oklahoma City and enjoyed their family, friends and travel. They made many trips, both in the states and abroad.

Imogene was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dean W. Nourse, Harold Staten and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Mark and John Tanton, and three stepchildren, Diane Lilly of Irving, Texas, Dean W. Nourse Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michael Staten of Colleyville, Texas.

She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, having been baptized in the Pond Creek Methodist Episcopal Church at age 5, and was presently a member of Village United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.

She was a devoted daughter, wife and mother, having often declared that the times spent with her family were the happiest ones of her life.
