Michael Luis Standing

Michael Luis Standing
August 4, 1949 ~ March 8, 2026

Michael Luis Standing lived a life full of kindness, laughter and dedication to his family, culture, and community. It’s with deep love and sadness we share the passing of Michael Standing on March 8th, 2026. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Joyce Ann Standing, his two daughters and son in laws Jennifer and Trey Waters and Melissa and Robert Wright; his three grandsons Jeremiah, Chase, and Sully; three granddaughtersMakenna, Emma, and Renae and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends that he absolutely loved and adored.

Michael Standing is a Kiowa/Wichita from GracemontAnadarko. He was born to Nettie Lara and Phillip (Manual) Standing on August 4th, 1949. Michael graduated from Gracemont Highschool in 1967 and attended Central State College before entering the US Navy in 1969. Michael worked for Veterans Administration Hospital in the field of respiratory therapy for 34 years retiring in 2009.

Michael Standing was very active in his Native American culture. He was a member of the Native American church, The Indian Baptist Association of Oklahoma, Black Leggings Veterans Association, as well as founding and running the Native American War Dance Guild for about 10 years. He was very active in his culture serving as head man dancer, head singer and as MC for various tribal organizations across Oklahoma.

Michael was also a distinguished artist, painting murals and portraits for his high school and continued his art into the US Navy. He painted murals for the USS Enterprise and the Seven Sisters Ships where they remain to this day.

Michael is proceeded in death by his parents Phillip and Nettie Standing, Brothers McKinley and Alfred Standing, sisters Ardina McAdams, Josephine Parker and 1 grandson Coby Wright. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him, his memory will live in on our hearts forever. Memorial information to come.
