February 3, 1993 ~ April 27, 2019

Celebration of life services for Vance Lee Sprowls, 26, Enid resident, will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Stride Center. Arrangements are under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service.

Vance was born on February 3, 1993 in Grass Valley, California, the son of Thomas J. Patton and Mandy Sprowls, and passed away on April 27, 2019 in Oklahoma City. He was raised and educated in Garber, graduating from Garber High School with the class of 2010. While at Garber, he was the starting running back for the Garber Football Team State Champions 2008 and 2009. He participated in the Tough Man Competition. He enjoyed boxing, motorcycles, music, yard work, and any country boy stuff. Vance worked in the oilfield for Torque Casing.

Vance is survived by his mother, Mandy Sprowls of Garber; Father, Thomas J. Patton of Timbuckto, California; sister, Tashina Ahner of Enid; brothers, Lyle (Lynnecia) Ahner of Enid, and Shaun Prock of Garber; Grandmothers: Sherry Eaton from Ponca City, Patty Patton and Kim Lyles both of California; aunt, Laurie Richardson and husband Kenneth Scott of Covington; uncle, Shaun Sprowls of Cushing, Oklahoma; cousins, Matecha Crawford of Enid, Michael Corder of Edmond, Michelle Richardson of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Devon Baggett of Enid. Vance was preceded in passing by his grandfathers, Charles Sprowls, Theron Eaton and aunt Shannon Baldwin. Remebrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.

Motorcyclist dies from his injuries, passenger critical

A 26-year-old man died Saturday morning from injures sustained in a crash Friday evening on South Oakwood, according to Enid Police Department.

Vance Lee Sprowls, of Enid, died from his injuries sustained in the 4:53 p.m. crash in the 200 block of South Oakwood, according to police. Sprowls was operating a 2007 Honda CX900 when it collided with 2009 Nissan Versa turning out of the La Mesa addition.

Sprowls and his passenger, Katelyn Unger, 23, were flown from the scene by Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City,according to police. Sprowls died at 4:41 a.m. from head injuries sustained in the crash. Unger was admitted to the ICU in critical condition with head and leg injuries. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Sprowls was not wearing a helmet.

Sprowls did not have insurance for the motorcycle and the tag on the Honda was expired.

Witnesses told police Sprowls was stopped at the light at Randolph and Oakwood facing south. When the light turned green, Sprowls accelerated at a high rate of speed south on Oakwood.The driver of the Nissan, 16-year-old Madison See FATAL CRASH, Page A3

Jacobs, told police she was halfway through turning north onto Oakwood from Prospect Avenue and did not see any traffic. Sprowls attempted to stop the motorcycle but struck the side of the Nissan.

Jacobs was transported by private vehicle to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and was treated and released.

The four lanes of the 200 block of Oakwood were closed as officers investigated the accident and mapped the scene. Traffic was opened for access to Dollar General and entirely reopened by 8:55 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.
