Letha I. "Sally" (Gates) Winkleman Spears

April 30, 1925 ~ December 9, 2012

Letha I. "Sally" (Winkleman) Spears, 87, formerly of Cherryvale and Bartlesville died at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale with Rev. Andrew Heiman, celebrant. Rosary was recited at 7:00 P.M. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Private family interment took place in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the St. Francis Xavier Altar Society and they may be left with Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.

Letha I. "Sally" Spears was born April 30, 1925 at Newton, Kansas the daughter of Lloyd Gates and Lorena (Lewis) Gates. She lived in Bartlesville for a while, but lived in Cherryvale most of her life.

She was united in marriage to Harold Winkleman and they later divorced. She later married Robert Spears and he preceded her in death in 1999.

She was a cosmetologist form 1953 until retiring in 2011. She was self-employed and was owner operator of the Beauty Nook in Cherryvale. She received and Academic Achievement Award in 1956. 1959 attended ICC of Independence and received her instructor license in 1960. Later she attended Advanced Schooling (Vernon's) Kansas School of Cosmetology in 1961. In 1963 she attended the University of Kansas Advanced Cosmetology School and later trained three apprentices.

Memberships she held include Independence Business Women, Life member Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. John Catholic Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale, Kansas.

Survivors include, one daughter, Diana Woldum and her husband Morris of Cherryvale, four sons, Jerome Winkleman of Shelley, Idaho, John Winkleman of Buhl, Idaho, Frank Winkleman and his wife Jeanne of Cherryvale, Kansas, Steve Winkleman and his wife Debbie of Cherryvale, Kansas, one brother, Dale Gates of Florida, 14 grandchildren, Stoney Winkleman, Jeff Winkleman, Matthew Winkleman, Jeremy Winkleman, Mikel Woldum, James J. Shibest, Jordyn Shibest, Sunne Woldum, Rainie Woldum, Shannon Winkleman, Jeanette Winkleman, Marsha Dilley, Ginger Lay, twelve great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, three nephews and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother, and grandson, J.R. Winkleman.
