Blanche South

PORTALES, N.M. - Blanche South, 96, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with Dr. Philip Fike officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales Inc.

Mrs. South was born in Charleston, Ark. and was raised in Oklahoma near Purcell. She married Murry South in 1920 at Criner, Okla. They moved to Portales in 1922. She was active in the First Baptist Church working with the WMU, the Cradle Roll, and teaching children.

Her husband, Murry, died in 1985.

Survivors include three daughters, Marie Creamer and Irene Ribble, both of Portales, and Betty Wright of Roswell; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church.

The body will not be available for viewing.
