Jerry Raymond Snow

Feb. 5, 1935 ~ Dec. 26, 2009

SAPULPA - Jerry Raymond Snow, of Sapulpa and formerly of Hulbert, died Thursday, Dec. 26 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa after a bout with cancer. Jerry was born Feb. 5, 1935 to L. E. and Rene Snow in McCurtain.

On Sept. 1, 1953 he married his life-long sweetheart, Blanche McGee, in Berryhill, and they enjoyed more than fifty-five years of marital companionship and love.

Always eager to further his education and credentials, in 1958 Jerry received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Math, from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in Durant. He went on to Oklahoma State University to study engineering and, in 1960, received a Master of Science degree in Engineering. While at OSU, he was a teaching assistant in mathematics. From 1960-62,

Jerry worked for General Motors in Kokomo, Ind., returning to Oklahoma in 1962 to work for North American Aviation in Tulsa. With a brief posting to California in 1965, Jerry worked as an engineer and project manager with North American in Tulsa until his retirement in 1992. At North American, Jerry was especially proud of his work on the Saturn space project. On several occasions during his work in Tulsa he taught courses at Spartan School of Aeronautics using his considerable knowledge and skills. In 1972,

Jerry and Blanche purchased property on the east side of Fort Gibson Lake and, over the next few years, they and their sons, Jerry Bob and Jim, using their own skills and labor, built a magnificent home from scratch. Among their relatives and friends, their place was a center of welcome, peace and great cooking. To all his neighbors and many relatives Jerry was the consummate handyman, always ready to use his considerable engineering skills to fix or build whatever was needed at the time.

Jerry and Blanche were great supporters of civic life in Hulbert and in Cherokee County, with a great passion for the politics of the Democratic Party. In 2002, Jerry and Blanche moved to Sapulpa to be closer to health services and to help family members.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Blanche; his son, James Snow; his beloved grandson, Jonas Snow; other grandchildren: Wilson Snow, Mary Snow and Kelly Snow; and his sister, Mary Carol Roden.

He was preceded in death by his elder son, Jerry Bob Snow.

Sister-in-law, Betty Downs, of Sapulpa, has been a wonderful companion to Jerry and Blanche. A host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends will dearly miss his formidable presence among them.

A memorial for Jerry was on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church, in Sapulpa, with the Rev. Gary Radtke officiating. Smith Funeral Home of Sapulpa is providing the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Jerry may be made to the McGee Family Scholarship Fund at the First United Bank, 315 E. Dewey, Sapulpa, Okla., 74066.Smith Funeral Home, Sapulpa, Okla. (918) 224-1313.
