Anita Lou (Ayres) Smithson
January 12, 1941 - July 21, 2023

Anita Lou Smithson, 82, of Wynnewood, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, at her home in Wynnewood. She was born on January 12, 1941, in Amarillo, Texas to the late J. B. Ayres and Jaunita Hall Ayres. She was raised in Dalhart, Texas where she attended school.

Anita was the Football Home Coming Queen and XIT Best Cowgirl. She and her classmates have stayed in touch for the past 64 years. Anita married Clauson Smithson on June 14, 1959, in Dalhart. In 1973 they moved to Madill, Oklahoma where they owned and operated the Smithson Saddle Shop and Ranch. In 1991 they moved to Pauls Valley for a short time before moving to Wynnewood where she lived the rest of her life. She worked as a Certified Reflexologist and Massage Therapist. Anita also worked as the Madill Church of Christ Secretary, Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp Secretary and cook. She worked as Exercise Director at the Willows Assisted Living, Office Manager and Sales for Shelley’s Livestock Photography and Frankie’s Photos for County and Oklahoma Youth Expo. Anita was a member of the Church of Christ where she was very active, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She served as 4-H leader at Madill and Tyrone, and she was a member of the Pauls Valley Garden Club. Anita enjoyed riding horses, floral decorations, working in her garden and following her grandkids’ activities. She also enjoyed helping others with their pain, visiting the sick and elderly.

Anita is survived by Husband: Clauson Smithson, Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Children: Doug Smithson and wife Rhonda, Gainesville, Texas, Shelley Scifres and husband Joe, Roff, Oklahoma. 6 Grandchildren: Tenisha Low, Samantha Runyan, Shianna Gambill, Justin Smithson, Alyssa Daniels and Logan Smithson. 6 Great Grandchildren: Brianna Low, Audrinna Low, Shaylee Gambill, Darbee Runyan, Slade Gambill, and baby girl Daniels. Brother: Jim Ayres and wife Ann, Alvord, Texas. Sister: Carrol Mavity and husband Jim, Katy, Texas.

Honorary Friends: Aimee Crowe, Janet McCoy, Gail Keith, Glenda Beasley and Sue Nelson.

Casket Bearers: Justin Smithson, Logan Smithson, Ty Low, Dillon Runyan, Steven Gambill and Derek Daniels. Honorary Bearers: Francis Nelson, Bill Lee, Marty Powers, Bob Ayres.
