Stephen Lee Smith

March 31, 1959 ~ February 23, 2008

A celebration of life will be held for Stephen Lee Smith, 48, of Marietta, at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 1, at Marietta’s First Baptist Church. Friends and family are encouraged to attend and share their memories of Steve. A memorial motorcycle ride will be organized at a later date to take Steve back to his childhood home of Rosepine, Louisiana.

Born March 31, 1959 in Galveston, Texas, the son of Melvin and Arlene Cline Smith, he died Saturday, February 23, 2008, after suffering critical injuries in a car accident.

Mr. Smith had been a resident of Marietta for over 20 years. He attended school at Rosepine and was a mechanic and had worked at Weber Aircraft for the last 10 years. He was a member of the Teamster’s Union at Weber. Mr. Smith had many hobbies. He loved to hunt and was an avid gun collector. He had served as a firefighter with the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department and later had served as a reserve deputy with the Love County Sheriff’s Department. His hobbies included golf, scuba diving and archery. Mr. Smith shared his love of archery by teaching both of his daughters how to shoot a bow. He loved spending time with his children and grandson. Mr. Smith was an active member of the American Iron Riders motorcycle club and he enjoyed attending the bike rallies. He was an LSU fan and enjoyed watching the games with his friends. One of Steve’s favorite pastimes was just spending time with his friends.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law Jennifer “Jennie” and Cpl. Jonathan Davis, USMC of Fallbrook, California, and Kathryn “Katie” Smith of Marietta; a grandson, Charles Ayden “Bubba” Jones; a brother, Michael Smith of Texarkana, Texas; two sisters, Myrna Cooley of Rosepine and Eddie Kutchka of Victoria, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve had so many close friends that it would be impossible to select just a few, so the family asks that all of his friends consider themselves honorary pallbearers.

This obituary included a picture of Mr. Smith.
