Opal (Lyon) Smith

November 11, 1913 ~ June 20, 2002

Opal was born on November 11, 1913 in Calumet, Oklahoma to Charles and Leanna Lyon. She died peacefully at home on June 20, 2002.

A private memorial service was held and officiated by Pastor Don Wilkerson of Central Baptist church, where she was a longtime member.

In January, 1932, Opal married her husband Eldon Smith. In his business they traveled around the states for several years before settling in Bakersfield in the late 70s to be close to their family.

Opal was a soft-spoken woman who devoted her life to God, her husband and her family. She loved to sew and make dolls and clothes for her grandkids, among other things. She treasured the time spent with her church family where she made many wonderful friendships.

She is preceded in death by her husband Eldon (1985), parents, daughter, Betty Sue Ferguson, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

She leaves behind 3 sons, Bob, Doug and Farrel Smith and their wives, son- in-law, Bob Ferguson, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Her gentle nature & heartwarming smile will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
