JoAnn (Brewer) Smith

November 29, 1933 ~ March 15, 1998

A memorial celebration for JoAnn Brewer Smith, 64, will be Sunday, March 22, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 3925 Georgian Drive, Haltom City, Texas.

Mrs. Smith was born November 29, 1933, in Gainesville, Texas, and died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at her home. She was the daughter of Virgil Ralph and Lura Shellenberger Brewer.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Parkland School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas, and later was instrumental in establishing the TCJC Northeast Campus Health Sciences Paramedic Training Program. A registered nurse, she was a longtime employee at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Smith selflessly dedicated her life to her family and nursing.

Survivors include her children and grandchildren, Shelley Smith Kellam, her husband Tom, their children Amber and John of Fort Worth; Shannon Smith, M.D., her husband Michael White of Nacogdoches, Texas; Lisa Smith Rouse, M.D., her husband Scott, their children Erin and Garrett of Kerrville, Texas; Laura Smith Roberts, her children Aaron and Sarah of Fort Worth; John S. Smith and his wife Julie of Austin, Texas; former husband and friend, John H. Smith, M.D., of Burleson, Texas; and brother, David Ralph Brewer of Eufaula.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Ralph Brewer; and her mother, Lura Shellenberger Brewer.

Memorial contributions may be made to “Uncompensated Care of Children with Cancer” through Development Department, Cook Children’s Medical Center, 801 7th Ave., Ft. Worth, TX 76104.
