Esther (Austin) Smith

Aug. 28, 1910 ~ Oct. 29, 2005

A memorial service for Esther Smith, 95, of Hunter, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter Christian Church. The Rev. Devon McAnally will officiate. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

She was born Aug. 28, 1910, in Scott County, Kan., to Arthur and Mabel Garner Austin and died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid.

She graduated from Hunter High School in 1929. She served as post office clerk for three years.

She married W.A. Bill Smith July 27, 1932. He died in 1973.

She was a member of Hunter Christian Church, serving as church secretary for 18 years. She was also a member of Eastern Star. She became an insurance agent for 20 years, and at the same time was an inspector on the Election Board.

Surviving are three sons, Duane Smith of Fairview, Marvin Smith of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and Lyle Smith of Las Vegas; one brother, Merle Austin of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Elsie Newton and Jamie Davidson, both of Boliver, Mo.; 1-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hunter Christian Church.
