Dora Brady (Hittson) Smith
June 7, 1910 ~ November 12, 2010 (age 100)

Smith, Dora Brady Hittson cherished mother of Pat and John was born June 7, 1910 to William Earl Hittson and Anna K. Fisher on a ranch in Hedspeth county, Texas about 60 miles from Sierra Blanco, Texas.  They moved a year later in a covered wagon to Rotan, Fisher County, Texas.  She graduated from Rotan high school and attended Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas.  She achieved a teacher's certificate and taught school in Seminole, Texas and Roby, Texas.  She and Richard M. Smith were married July 7, 1936 in Palestine, Texas.  They lived in several different locations in Texas but lived the last forty years of his life in Lubbock, Texas.  She later moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be near her daughter.  

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard M. Smith in 1982; her son-in-law, Tillman J. Ragan; her brother, Jesse Fisher Hittson; and her sister, Anna Laura Baker.  

She is survived by her son, John Richard Smith of Taunton, England; her daughter, Patricia Smith Ragan of Norman; three nieces, Barbara Robinson, Lois Ann Collins and Beverly Stoeje; two stepgranddaughters, Elizabeth Ragan and Patty Ragan; and one great stepgrandson, Jerry Murray.

Dora is a member of First Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma.  Church was the center of Dora's life where she formed many lifetime friends with her Sunday school class.  In her later years, Dora was kindly cared for by some special friends, especially Elizabeth Baxter who was her constant, tender, and beloved friend who brought joy into Dora's life and Patty White who provided gentle loving care for Dora during her brother, Tillman J. Ragan's illness.  Also, special in Dora's recent years were the caregivers at Arbor House Assisted Living who treated her with gentleness, affection and respect.

Memorials may be made in remembrance of Dora to the charity of your choice.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 19, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Wade Smith officiating under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.  

Burial will be in Rotan, Texas where she was raised and will be interred next to her husband, Richard Smith.
