David Gilbert Smith

David Gilbert Smith
November 13, 1936 – March 17, 2020

He moved with his family to Nicoma Park when he was young, and graduated from Choctaw High School in 1955. He met Sally Lou Moore soon thereafter, and they were married for 48 years until her passing.

Together they had two children, David and Gary. He served in the United States Army, and after, traveled with his family throughout much of the Midwest doing construction work. They moved in 1967 to Sallisaw, OK, then in 1969 moved to Midwest City.

David was a crane operator for Thomas Concrete/American Crane. He was a proud member of the Union for 50+years until his retirement. During the OKC Murrah Building bombing, David was called in by the Union to help. He used his skills as a crane operator to help in the search and rescue, and made a big impact on the lives of Oklahomans that day.

David was an avid coin collector, knife collector, and loved going out to eat for breakfast every morning. He also enjoyed taking his family hunting and fishing, working in his shed, and watching western movies.

Without fail, every morning he would do the Daily Crossword Puzzle in the Oklahoman newspaper. He loved talking about his family history and their heritage. He was deeply loved by all who had the chance to know him, and will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Vivian Smith; wife, Sally Lou Smith; son, Gary Allen Smith; sisters, Delece Stiles and Doris Smith; brothers, Harold and Howard Smith; and granddaughter, Marisha Ann Smith.

He is survived by his son David Smith, Jr. (wife LuAnne); brother, Jack Smith; grandchildren, Brandon, Angelia, J.D., Brianna, Chris, Rachel, and Megan; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Cathryn, and Chloye; and many other family and friends.

He was expecting his first biological great-grandchild, Zane Andrew Kenney, who is due first of June.
