Charles Dean (Chick) Smith 85 year old Mooreland resident, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Mooreland First United Methodist Church with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Dean Smith, (Chick) was born October 2, 1936 to Charles Delbert Smith and Dorothy Guthrie Smith in Mooreland, Oklahoma. Chick attended and graduated from Mooreland Schools in 1956. After working for the Rail Road a short time Chick enlisted in the Army and married the love of his life, Donna Fay Wilson on October 26, 1958. They were stationed at Ft. Sill Army Base where they were allowed to live off base after 6 weeks of basic training. He enlisted as a private and came out a E4 specialist in Lawton, OK, serving 1958-1960. They were blessed with their first born, Fonda Rae Smith, born on Chick's birthday, in the Ft. Sill Army Hospital. The family moved back home to Mooreland. Chick worked the oilfields 2 years and was employed early on at Mooreland Michigan Wisconsin Pipe Line Co. On January 24, 1962 the couple made their family complete with the birth of their son, Jimmy Dean (Buster) Smith. Chick worked his way up to the ranks of Superintendent in Elk City retiring in 1995. Chick and Donna moved back home to Mooreland.

They were both very active in their community and church events, enjoying spending quality time with their family and many life long friends.

Chick was a member of the Lions Club, a member of the American Legion, member of the First United Methodist Men, church usher for many years, active in their kids sporting events, baseball, football, cheerleading. Chick and Donna were a huge influence in many of their children's friends' lives.

Chick is survived by his daughter, Fonda Gentry and husband Keith, son Buster Smith. Chick is survived by three grandchildren and their families, Brooke Gentry Granger and her children, Beau, Dax and Duke; Zach Gentry and his wife Kelley, their children Crew and Isla; Hope Gentry Kastelic and husband Derek, their children Abe and Elliette, sister-in-law Linda Elwood and husband Keith, one brother Harold Smith and one sister Patsy Clark, several nieces, nephews, other family and many many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his loving wife Donna, and his sister Betty Lou Howe.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mooreland First United Methodist Church or a charity of choice with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
