Bobbie Sue (McBurney) Smith
September 21, 1937 ~ September 28, 2020

Bobbie Sue (McBurney) Smith, 83, passed away Monday, September 28th, at her home in Yukon, Oklahoma, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lake Charles, LA on September 21, 1937, Bobbie Sue spent her childhood and young adult life in Lake Charles. She graduated from Leesville High School in 1955. She met her future husband, Gary Vaughan Smith, at church camp and they were married on January 8, 1957.

Bobbie loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She regularly sang with her four sisters and various friends, even continuing the tradition with her own two daughters. She worked at South Central Bell Telephone Co. and retired from Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City after twelve years as an administrative assistant.

Bobbie was preceded in death by parents, Rev. H.B. and Ima (Swann) McBurney, her older sisters, Kathleen Assunto (John), Eloise Watkins Smith (Henry Watkins, George Smith), ImaJean Authement (Eric), and granddaughter-in-law, Megan Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Gary V. Smith; children, Garon H. Smith (Melanie), Gardner, KS, Karen Smith Parker (John), Yukon, OK, Cheryl Smith Johnson (Greg), Nashville, TN and Gerald Smith (Dianna) Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Micah Smith (Leslie) ((Harper & Theo)), Krystal Leitner (Phil) ((Iggy, Ever and Indie)), Nathan Johnson ((Eilee)), Gentry Smith (Miranda), Avery Finch (Miles), Grayson Smith (McKenzie), Noah Smith (Hannah), Gerald Smith II, Jared Parker and Allison Van Fossen (McKenzie); two step-grandchildren, Matt Johnson and Patrick Johnson; sister, Harriet Simpson (Charlie); and many nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers: Micah Smith, Nathan Johnson, Gentry Smith, Grayson Smith, Noah Smith, Gerald Smith II and Jared Parker.

Visitation will be held at Mercer-Adams Funeral home in Bethany, OK on Saturday, October 3rd, between 7:00-8:30 pm. A private service for the family will be held just prior to the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to Stephenson Cancer Research Center
