Laurel Ann (Nelson) Simmons

Laurel Ann (Nelson) Simmons
January 18, 1963 ~ April 30, 2012

Laurel Ann Nelson-Simmons was born in Oklahoma City, OK on January 18, 1963. She died Monday, April 30, 2012 in Guthrie, OK.

One of eight children, she is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Barry Nelson and Janet Eileen Smith and one brother, Phillip Michael Nelson. She is survived by her siblings: Stephen Barry Nelson, Robert David Nelson, Robin Renae Nelson-Easley, and Lisa Noel Nelson-Whitson as well as a few other half siblings.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 1990. She spent the majority of her career caring for patients in a home health environment around the Oklahoma City metro. Her most recent position was with Companion Home Health in Guthrie as a valued and highly regarded member of the team.

Laurel had a passion for animals and enjoyed spending her time outdoors. She spent countless hours camping, kayaking, and hiking. She especially enjoyed sitting on the back porch, accompanied by the people most dearly to her, watching the sunset.

She spent the last four years of her life with Kevin Caver whom she described as the light of her life! In her journal, she expressed gratitude for the blessings of knowing Kevin, his children Emily, Zoey, and Ethan, her family, and her dearest friend Angela Martin.

Laurel is loved and will be sorely missed by a multitude of family, friends, and co-workers. We are all better for having the privilege of knowing her.

A private family memorial service will be held to honor Laurels life. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any memorials be made to a pet humane society of your choice.
