Phyllis (Buxton) Silcott

Phyllis (Buxton) Silcott
February 12, 1938 ~ April 12, 2023

Phyllis was born February 12, 1938, and passed from this world on April 12, 2023. Phyllis was born in Wapato, Washington to Charles and Juanita Buxton. They lived in Washington until Charles’s untimely death in 1939. They moved back to Adams, Oklahoma and then moved to Liberal, Kansas. She went to school in Liberal and worked a few jobs while in high school. One of these jobs was a carhop at the Frosty Mug drive in, where she noticed a handsome young man named Bob Silcott in a brand new yellow and black Ford who was also interested in her. They dated and were married on February 10, 1956. They were blessed with 3 sons, Robert Wayne Jr., David Ray, and Rick Don Silcott.

They moved to Fairview, Oklahoma in August of 1965, following the oilfield boom around that area. They pulled their trailer house to Fairview behind an oilfield truck and put it in a trailer park until renting a lot on East Beck St. Phyllis started in-home childcare which she continued for many years. Many children in the community were partially raised by Phyllis. Bob quit truck driving and became a TV repairman at Coast-to-Coast store. They purchased a lot on 3rd street and moved their trailer there. Many improvements were made to the home there.

They continued their careers until they both retired in 1996. They traveled with their RV and had many adventures that included trips to the World Fair in Seattle, Alaska, Mississippi River barge RV float, Mexico, Deer camps, and they snowbirded in Arizona and south Texas with family and friends. Phyllis was very involved and loved Mothers Club.

After Bob passed, she lived by herself until suffering health issues, then she lived with David & Sue, Sister Trish. As her health deteriorated, she moved into the Fellowship Home. She was very content there and made many friends.

She is survived by son David & wife Sue; brothers Leroy Buxton & Bonnie, Terry Nichols & Sue; sister Trish Inglandl; sister-in-law Janis Cuttler & family, 9 grandchildren and many great & great great grandchildren.

A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Fairview. Casual dress with meal to follow. Condolences may be made at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
