Jackie Calvin Short

Jackie Calvin Short
April 15, 1934 ~ May 8, 2021

Jack Short, 87 year old Woodward resident, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Alliance Health Hospital Woodward surrounded by his family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are being made under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Jackie "Jack" Calvin Short was born April 15, 1934 in the Paruna Community in Harper County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Oren Kenneth and Audra (Waggoner) Short. Jack was raised in Harper County and graduated from Buffalo High School. He then attended Draughon College and graduated with an Associates Degree in business.

Jack was united in marriage to Beverly M. Hale on March 2, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Buffalo, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Cactus, Texas. The couple also lived in Sweeney, Texas, Stavanger, Norway, Buffalo, Oklahoma and then Woodward, Oklahoma. He worked as a Operations Supervisor for Phillips 66, Grace, and Terra for most of his life. During his years in the refinery business he also did farming and ranching, which upon retirement he did full time. Jack was a member of the Elks Lodge. His hobbies were snowmobiling, four wheeling in the New Mexico and Colorado Mountains, flying planes, fishing, and hunting. He was an animal lover and spent much of his time outdoors watching wildlife and taking care of and working cattle. Spending time with his family and friends is what brought him the most joy in life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a tremendous work ethic and had been a mentor to many. Jack taught us by the way he lived to play hard, work harder, speak softly, laugh loudly and love deeply. Jack was a beloved husband, dad, Pappaw, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Audra Short; inlaws, L.L Bus and Leora Hale; grandson Shane Sellers; sister, Donna Short Jackson; and brother in law, Karey Don Hale.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Beverly Short; son Christopher Shane Short; daughters Deborah Short Talbert and husband Travis, Rudena Short Cole and husband DC; 5 grandchildren: Chris Kingrea and wife Charlene; Marissa Sellers Anderson and husband Chad; and Cody Harvey; 8 great grandchildren: Lindsey, Lauren, Kylie, Madden, Collier and Cameron, Ashlyn and Allyson; sister in law Betty Hale; nieces: Shoyleen Hamilton and Kelley Conner; nephew Ken Jackson; other family and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodward or Buffalo Senior Center with the funeral home accepting donations on behalf of the family.
