Dixie (Ingerham) Shook

Dixie (Ingerham) Shook
June 21, 1945 ~ December 13, 2020

Dixie Shook of Caney, KS, was in Caney Sunday when she rode off into her eternal sunset. She was 75 and had enjoyed sharing her love of horses, shopping and crafts with her family and friends.

Dixie was born the daughter of Loss Ingerham and Claudia Henson on June 21, 1945, in Tulsa, OK. She was raised by Edna Schoonover and Loss Ingerham in Tulsa with her extended family close by and graduated from McLain High School in 1963. Dixie began her working life as a beautician before starting her 30-plus year career with Zebco in Tulsa where she retired as line lead in 1997. Once retired Dixie moved to Ochelata for five years before moving north just across the state line and settling in Caney for the past 15 years.

Growing up Dixie developed a lifelong passion for horses and rodeo from her father. She barrel raced and passed her passion onto her beloved daughter Patti and became her greatest fan, loudly cheering Patti on in her races. In recent years Dixie enjoyed attending and watching rodeo on TV. Dixie was known for her love of shopping, oftentimes shopping all day and into the night. She loved arts and crafts and Dixie had a whole room dedicated to it in her home. She crocheted, sewed and crafted, creating afghans and unique handicrafts to give to family and friends. Dixie also loved going to Grove Ok to Windy’s house and spending 2 weeks a month playing with her nieces, great nieces and great great nieces and nephews.

Dixie is survived by two sisters Linda Rose and Tina Steel; five nieces, Windy, Mason, Tommi, Bailey and Presli - all Jeffries; nephew Billy Moss, cousin Sue Moss, dear friend Pat Hite and her family, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia Kay “Patti” Shook; sister, Beverly; and brother Tony Cantu.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75).

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, December 18, at Niotaze Cemetery in Niotaze, KS. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
