James Clifton "Jim" Sheppard

James Clifton "Jim" Sheppard
August 24, 1925 ~ October 24, 2010 (age 85)

James "Jim" Clifton Sheppard, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Norman on Sunday, October 24, 2010.  Jim was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 24, 1925 to James Houston and Lucy Iva Sheppard. 

After graduation from high school in Carlisle, TX, Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II. 

Jim fell in love with Hazel J. "Jerry" Whitmarsh Price, and they married at Henderson, TX on February 7, 1948.  Throughout their sixty years of marriage, Jim and Jerry raised their family in Texas and Oklahoma following his work with Amoco in the oil and gas business.  After moving to Norman in October of 1972, Jim enjoyed many activities including raising cattle, vegetable gardening, woodworking, and carpentry.  Jim's love for children extended beyond his own family as he volunteered at Eisenhower Elementary in Norman and in the Children's discovery room at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History.  In 2009, Jim was decorated for fifty years service as a 32nd degree Mason at the Masonic Temple in Guthrie.  His philanthropic interests included the Scottish Rite Hospital for children in Dallas, TX and the Arthritis Foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Sheppard McKee; and his wife. 

He is survived by his brother, Ken Sheppard of Levelland, TX; seven children and their spouses, Jeanne and John Parrott of Noble, OK,  Mike Sheppard of Noble, OK, Pat and Sheryl Sheppard of Kingfisher, OK, Lisa Sheppard of Norman, OK, Tina and Joe Blackburn of Norman, OK, Sterling and Susan Price of The Colony, TX, and Sue and Larry Sherwood of Horseshoe Bay, TX;  thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, TX.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in The Chapel of The Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street, Norman, OK. 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M.  Thursday, October 28, 2010 in the Kerens City Cemetery in Kerens, TX
