Joe Mart "Joey" Shelby
Oct 7, 1936 ~ Dec 15, 2015

Joe Mart “Joey” Shelby, age 79, of Hollis, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 15, 2015, at Harmon Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Shelby was born on the family farm, in Harmon County, on October 7, 1936, to Nubern Joseph and Beatrice (Smith) Shelby. Joey began school at Arnett and transferred to Hollis, where he graduated in 1956. On September 21, 1957, he married the love of his life, Barbara Fern Rippetoe, and they spent the next fifty-eight wonderful years together, until his death. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Amarillo for a short time where Joey worked for an implement company. Moving back to Hollis, he began farming and ranching and continued until his death. Joey was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and served four years as the tank commander. Joey loved raising cattle, farming, playing golf, fishing and being with his grandkids. He rode to many ballgames in the “Tiger Express” suburban with some of his best friends, having great times. Joey had his own special place to set at the Hollis Livestock Auction. He drank lots of coffee with special friends at the Hollis Inn, Boomerang and Irene’s Cafe'. Joey accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 8, 2015.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; three sons, Marty Shelby of Hollis, Todd Shelby of Weatherford and Perry Shelby of Hollis; five grandchildren, Tyler Shelby and wife Amy of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Stormie Shelby of Frederick, Kamryn Shelby of Hobart, Rece Shelby of Weatherford and Kaden Shelby of Hobart; two great grandchildren Noah Shelby and Jonah Shelby of Tuttle along with many other relatives and friends.
