James Joseph "Joe" Sheehy, Sr.

James Joseph “Joe” Sheehy, Sr.
March 16, 1936 ~ September 15, 2020

James Joseph "Joe" Sheehy, Sr. passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 surrounded by family. Joe was born to Mary and Edd Sheehy in Ft. Scott, Kansas, March 16, 1936. He was one of eight children who grew up in Hume, Missouri working alongside their parents on the family farm.

He graduated from Hume High School in 1954 and married Leanna Dale on Friday, May 13, 1955.

He began a career with the Hartford Insurance Livestock Department in 1959, retiring in 2001, a span of 42 years. Joe was a humble and kind man of few words. His family enjoyed listening to him as he shared stories of his childhood growing up on the farm.

Joe later married Barbara Dabney, joining two families together.

When he wasn’t working, Joe enjoyed spending time on the farm; driving a tractor, building fence, checking livestock or whatever needed to be done. He looked forward to his daily trips with his beloved Molly Sue, meeting his boys for a cold one or two. He loved to travel, and he and Barbara were blessed to take many trips together. You never had to wonder where Joe stood on something, and if fortunate enough, he would sit and talk about it with you, at the “talk about it bench”.

Joe was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. Joe’s kindness and family values will be his legacy.

Joe was preceded in death by: His parents, Edd and Mary Sheehy; His wife, Leanna Sheehy; 7 brothers and sisters and other family whom he loved.

Joe is survived by: His wife of 31 years, Barbara of the home; His boys, Joey Sheehy (Robin) of Purcell, Pat Sheehy (Joyce) of Purcell, Chris Sheehy ( Sherri) of Purcell, Tim Sheehy of Purcell and Charley Dabney of Jacksonville, FL; Daughters, Jolene Willis ( Neil) of Purcell, Jeannie Lohn (Victor) of Purcell, Michelle Sheehy of Purcell, Tammy Smith and husband Michael of Purcell and Renae Dabney Hanner of Purcell; 21 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several brothers and sisters-in-law, and a host of other family and friends.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home, Purcell, OK. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 18, 2020 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Purcell, OK. Masks will be required to attend Mass. Burial will be Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Hume Cemetery, Hume, MO. Send online condolences to the family @ www.wilsonlittle.com
