June Corinne (Munger) Sharp

June Corinne (Munger) Sharp
June 27, 1921 ~ January 5, 2019

June Corinne Sharp passed away January 5, 2019. She was born on June 27, 1921, in West Branch, Iowa, to Dr. Milo W. and Carrie E. Munger. The family moved to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in 1925, where she attended school, graduating in 1939. June attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years and graduated from the Lincoln General Hospital nursing program in 1944. During this time, she met Sgt. Robert H. Sharp, who was stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base. They married on January 7, 1945, in Lincoln, NE. They were married for 72 years.

She followed her husband to Albuquerque, NM, and soon the war was over. The couple moved to Herington, Kansas, where June did nursing at the local clinic, hospital, and nursing home. In June of 1966, she began working on the pediatric ward at Irwin Army Hospital. They lived in Herington until 1976 when Bob and June, along with their son, Steve, and his wife Becky, purchased a motel and service station in Grand Lake, Colorado. Since considerable amounts of snow hampered business during the winter months, they spent their winters in Scottsdale, Arizona. Bob had a beautiful white beard and played Santa Claus at Christmas time at a local mall. June portrayed Mrs. Claus, getting children's names before they jumped on Santa's lap.

June was always a caring and helpful person. She loved doing things for others, and often put their needs before her own. Throughout her life, she was a member of many clubs and organizations: Beta Sigma Phi, Phi Mu, Order of Eastern Star (50-year member), PEO, Council Grove Extension group, United Methodist Church (until 1997), Tri-County Historical Society, Kappa Phi, and a member of Lincoln General Hospital Alumni Association. After moving to Oklahoma City in 1990, she was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, where she cherished her many friends and enjoyed a variety of activities, including Mobile Meals.

In recent years, June and Bob resided at the St. Ann Assisted Living Center, and most recently, in the St. Ann Nursing Home.

Left to honor and remember her love are two children: Steven (Rebecca) Sharp of Oklahoma City and Carol (Ted) Partch of Bird City, KS. She is survived by three grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Jackie Sharp and Marjorie Munger, and a brother-in-law, H.J. Sharp. June is also survived by many nieces and nephews with whom she enjoyed spending time. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, James, her parents, and three brothers.

Cremation has been chosen; it was June's wish that her ashes be spread around the various places she had lived. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Mercy Hospice of OKC.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel, Bethany, OK.
