Mary Ann (Thomas) Seely

Mary Ann (Thomas) Seely
Sept. 10, 1948 ~ Feb. 19, 2014

Mary Ann Thomas Seely, daughter of Sherman and Martha Williams Thomas, was born Sept. 10, 1948, in Enid, Okla. She attended Wakita Schools, graduating in 1966.

She attended college at Northwestern State University for two years before marrying her high school sweetheart and only love, Jerry Seely, on Aug. 1, 1969. Their first home was in Edmond, Okla., where she obtained her college degree in sociology from Central State University in 1971. In addition to attending school, she managed an apartment complex.

In 1972 their first child, Eric Leslie, was born. After the death of their infant son, the family returned to Wakita in 1974 to live where Douglas Ryan (1974), and Ashley Nicole (1977), and were born.

Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom, enjoying her time with her kids, and was devoted to raising her miniature schnauzers. She also enjoyed attending all the activities in which the children were involved. She loved showing off her grandkids’ pictures and spending time with them.

She worked at Seely Insurance Agency from 1988-1993, helping Jerry with the family business. She began working at Wakita Public Schools in 1996 and worked until 2010. Jerry and Mary were happily married for over 45 years in August.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, she passed away at the Community Health Center in Wakita, Okla., after battling her year-long fight with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Martha Thomas, and her infant son, Eric.

She will be greatly missed and always be in the hearts of her husband, Jerry, son, Douglas, daughter, Ashley and her son-in-law, Brandon as well as her three grandchildren, Raegan, Grant, and Lawson, brother, John and wife Johnnie and numerous in-laws, “out-laws,” nephews, nieces, and many, many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Wakita. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or to the Community Health Center, and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003, is in charge of arrangements. www.prairierosefuneralhomes.com.
