Charles Edward Seat

Charles Edward Seat
August 27, 1943 ~ April 2, 2021

Charles Edward Seat, 77, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021. Charlie was born August 27th 1943 in Miami, OK to Clarence Edward Seat and Mary Ann Seat (Cheater).

He graduated from Miami High School in 1961, and attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before receiving his BA from Oklahoma State University in 1967 and Masters from Oklahoma State University in 1971.

Mr. Seat began working at NSU in 1969 and influenced the Tahlequah community in many ways. He was the tzar of the NSU theater department for 35 years where he transformed countless lives and created a legacy that will continue to impact young thespians and Liberal Art students for many years to come. In 2019 NSU recognized Mr. Seat as a Centurion of the University and he was also inducted into the Oklahoma Movie Hall of Fame.

As a member of the Cherokee Nation, he shared his love for the arts with his portrayal of Stand Waite in the Cherokee National Historical Society production of "The Trail of Tears". Mr. Seat was a member of the cast from 1970 to 1994 and became the director of the drama from 1983 to 1994.

During his career, he performed and directed numerous productions and was involved with all aspects of the theater. He believed that everyone he taught should have the same experience, whether you wanted to be an actor, director, dancer, designer or a technical part of the show. He would push everyone to try it all, so that they would have a better understanding of the theater.

He was first and foremost a teacher, but also a storyteller, a loving father, grandfather and mentor. He enjoyed life to the fullest, and was happiest when sharing stories, fishing, or on a sailboat. While he will be remembered for many things, his thoughtful advice was given to anyone who would ask, or even if he just thought you needed to hear it. His advice will continue to guide us for many years.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Seat, and his siblings, Maxine Williams, Christopher "Spike" Spicer and Tommy Spicer.

He is survived by his children; Thomas "Chris" Seat of Tulsa and Laura Seat Doss of Tahlequah; his brother Ronnie "Galahoo" Seat and wife Patsy of Miami; ex-wife Robyn Seat, ex-wife Kathryn Seat; his grandchildren, Madeline Doss and Emma Doss, as well as his granddog Fran and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and many friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on April 17th, 2021 at the Elks Lodge #2601, 109 W. Willis Rd, Tahlequah, OK beginning at 7pm. Please join us to remember the life of Charles Seat. As he would wish, this is a casual event.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the "Charles Seat Memorial Fund at Northeastern State University". No donation is too small.

For online donations: please use PayPal @NSUFoundation and the "Charlie Seat Memorial" option on the drop down menu. Or you can go to www.NSUgiving.com/donate In the Area of Giving put the amount in the box marked "Other" and type "Charlie Seat Memorial" in the Comment box.
