Clara "Elaine" Schickedanz, of Fargo, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Elaine was born on October 24, 1945, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Kenton and Leona Charmasson. She attended Tangier Schools and Fargo High School before attending business school in Enid.
On May 19, 1973, Elaine married Glen Schickedanz at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Woodward. Together they made their home in Fargo, where they raised their two children, Russell and Tanya. During their early years as parents, Elaine worked at Fargo Schools and later at Mick's Pharmacy.
After 25 years of marriage, Glen and Elaine moved to Medford where she provided childcare in their home. Later moving to Piedmont, she continued her lifelong dedication to caring for children as a childcare provider and earned an associate's degree in early childhood development from Redlands Community College. After Glen and Elaine moved back to their Fargo farm in 2010, Elaine worked with close friend Karla Stone at The Embroidery Barn.
Elaine delighted in sewing, baking, and traveling. She cherished moments with her granddaughters, passing on her sewing skills. As a devoted family supporter, she attended track meets, concerts, games, and school events. Holidays were particularly meaningful to her-from dyeing Easter eggs to exchanging Christmas gifts with loved ones. Elaine and Glen also valued time spent with friends, regularly gathering for fellowship and conversation.
Elaine and Glen participated in numerous camping excursions, including journeys along the Oregon Trail and visits to various National Parks throughout Montana, South Dakota, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho. They also enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls, scenic train ride in Colorado and a cruise to Alaska, as well as trips to Germany, Italy, and Belgium. Since retiring, they have eagerly anticipated their annual travels to Colorado.
Elaine was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, where she and Glen worshiped faithfully for many years. She also deeply valued visits with friends and family and was known for her generosity, kindness, and quiet dedication to those she loved.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Kenton and Leona Charmasson, and her brothers, Leon and Larry.
She is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Glen Schickedanz; her son Russell Schickedanz and wife Sherlie of Boerne, Texas; daughter Tanya Roberts and husband Michael of Fairview, Oklahoma; her grandchildren: Hanna Henry and husband Christofer of Irving, Texas; Katie Schickedanz of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Maci and Camry Roberts of Fairview, Oklahoma.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Woodward Church of Christ, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in honor of Elaine to the American Liver Foundation c/o Billings Funeral Home, 1621 Downs Ave, Woodward, OK 73801.
