Mamie Sue (Littlejohn) Sams

September 3, 1945 ~ June 16, 2012

 

Mamie Sue Sams, 69, of Spring Hill, FL, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Sue was born on September 3, 1942 in Redden, OK, the daughter of Robert P. Littlejohn and Erma E. White.

She graduated from Savanna High School, Savanna, OK in 1960 and attended East Central Oklahoma State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, May 1965. She was a career Civil Servant with the USAF and the US Navy. She had previously taught students at the predominately Native American Okmulgee Technical School in Okmulgee, OK. From her early days in elementary school throughout her college career, Sue was a talented athlete and a basketball standout. She proved her athletic ability over and over again and eventually was selected to be a member of the famous "Flying Queens" at Waylon Baptist College, Plainview, TX. Sue was an avid supporter of veteran"s rights and benefits. She particularly enjoyed her volunteer work as a Life-Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing basketball, softball, bowling, knitting, gardening and traveling the world.

Sue is survived by her husband Steve; children, Stephen D. Estes and wife Valerie Rowden and Martin D. Estes, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Sofia Estes and Nicolas Estes, Norman, OK; siblings include two brothers Robert Littlejohn, Richland, WA, Jack Littlejohn, West Plains, MO, and two sisters Vada Chance and Alora Irvin, Oklahoma City.

Deceased sisters include Tina Young, Spencer, OK and Mattie Mae Crawford, Canadian, TX.

A Memorial Service will be held for Mrs. Sams at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 23, 2012 at VFW Post 9265, 4605 S. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City. Phone 405-604-0264. Lunch will be provided immediately after the Memorial Service.

Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. The family request any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
