Staff Sergeant Luis Antonio Ruiz-Tibén, 71, was born on December 9th, 1954 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to the late Ernesto Ruiz Curbelo and Juana Tibén Grana. After graduating from Ponce High School, Luis joined the United States Army, where he proudly flourished in his expertise as a 13 Bravo. He not only excelled in his military career, but also found purpose in the precision, discipline, dedication, and sacrifice that would later bless his family and community. When his military service concluded, Luis stepped into the workforce, contributing his leadership, skills, and unshakable work ethic to D.P.W. for 5 years, in addition to, IHG Hotels for 20 years, where he served as the Head of Maintenance. Most recently, Luis dedicated his time and efforts to Vet Pride Services for the last 8 years where he developed a passion and love for animals and the wildlife.
Luis gave his all to any role he was apart of. He was a man of few words but impactful actions. His favorite sports teams were the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Yankees. In his spare time, Luis enjoyed completing puzzles and word-crosses, going to the movies, traveling to the universities his grandkids attended, taking pictures of animals, staying up-to-date on the latest news and weather forecasts, and most importantly, spoiling his fleet of grand-dogs. Luis was his happiest when surrounded by his family, love, and laughter.
Luis is preceded in death by his Father: Ernesto Ruiz Curbelo, Mother: Juana Tiben Grana, Sister: Graciela Moreno, Brothers in law: Pedro Pabon, Hector Moreno, Alan Winslow and former son-in-law, Rafael Jones. He is also re-united with his beloved dogs, Lobo and Samantha.
Luis is survived by his two daughters: Marie Ruiz (Tank) and Diana Ruiz (James Schafer). Grandchildren: Alexa Padilla-Ruiz, Makaela Riss-Ruiz, Ma’Rod Luis Hunter-Ruiz, and Rashod Jones. Former wife and mother to his beautiful children, Julia Isabel Ruiz-Mendoza. Siblings: Ernesto (Emilia) Ruiz, Carmen Ana Pabon, Ricardo Ruiz, Ramon (Haydé) Ruiz, Camila Winslow, and Juana Inés Ruiz. Close family friend Omar Gonzalez and family. Family friend and neighbor, Lindsey Lafayette. As well as, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and associates who will cherish his memory.
