Jack Round

Jack Round
Jan 2, 1930 - Jun 23, 2013

Gods angels swooped down and ever so gently lifted Jack Round from his bed of pain and misery on Sunday, June 23, 2013 to be with His Son in paradise.

Jack was born on January 2, 1930 in Ponca City, the son of Bernice Stingley Round and Edward D. Round. He lived in Ponca City all his life until moving to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2010 to be near three of his four children.

Jack married the love of his life, Joanne Penisten on December 15, 1951. Jack and Joanne met at Conoco, then Continental Oil Company on June 4, 1951, had an unforgettable courtship and married 6 months later. They had been married 61 years. Jack worked in the accounting department in Production and Pipeline, retiring after 38 years in 1989.

Jack loved to travel and together the couple had traveled through all but five of the 50 states, Hawaii and several of the Caribbean Islands. Jacks family came first and his most prized accomplishments were his 4 children. He loved helping them with their homework and teaching them something new. He always took great pride in them as they achieved new goals.

Jack had many hobbies and spent many hours helping to create 17 flower beds surrounding his country home, which were featured with pictures more than once in the Ponca City News and was open to garden tours to those visiting Ponca City. Other hobbies included dancing, fishing, hunting, playing bridge and woodworking. Jack was a little league coach for his son, never missing any of his sporting events or his girls school involvements. He was a past member of the Elks the Noon Lions Club, Conoco Retirees and was a volunteer for the hospital, Westminster Village retirement Center and a volunteer tax preparer for AARP at the Ponca City Library. He was a member of St. Pauls Methodist Church, transferring from Asbury Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for 25 years.

Jack considered the right to vote a privilege and served as his precincts inspector for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne three daughters, Cynthia Round and husband Chas of New York City, Lerri Cooper and husband Rick of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Lisa Boswell and husband J.T. of Edmond one son, Kip Round and wife Teri of Yukon, Oklahoma 7 grandchildren, Tanner Cooper and wife Lindsay, Ty Cooper and wife Megan, Jennifer Round and husband Wouter Redelinghuys, Daryl Round, Taylor and Morgan Boswell and Carner Round 2 great grandchildren, Jackson and baby Emerson Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents his brother Larry Round and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at St. Pauls United Methodist Church, 1904 North Pecan, Ponca City. Family will have a visitation time with friends and family at the conclusion of the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
