John Leslie Ross

John Leslie Ross
September 24, 1949 ~ September 11, 2020

John Leslie Ross, 70, of OKC, passed away September 11, 2020 at Mercy Hospital. He was born September 24, 1949 in Shawnee, OK to Francis Eugene Ross and Mildred Josie Greenswright. When he was a child, the family moved to South Oklahoma City where Frank moved his insurance company.

John attended Prairie Queen Elementary and Jefferson Middle School, then went on to graduate in 1969 from US Grant High School with the help of his grade school friend, Phil Jones.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a 32nd degree Mason from Lodge #1 of McAlester, OK and belonged to the Misfits India Shriners of OKC. He was a lifetime member of both organizations.

John was married six times before he met his Lucky #7, the love of his life, Cristina. They married in Las Vegas on October 31, 1994.

John wore many hats in his life. He possessed many talents from construction to the refrigeration business he operated with his father for many years. He was also a Coors delivery driver in his early years before he followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a bar owner in many different venues.

The Porthole opened January 1, 1968. Frank and Jo owned and operated the business until Jo’s passing in 1981. Then Frank married Norma Ross and continued running the bar for the first 25 years. At that time, John and Cristina ran the business for the last 25 years before selling the property to OnCue.

John Ross was a pillar in the motorcycle world and hosted several events for the biker community. The famous mark he left on the community was his legendary Hot Link Wednesday where he passed out free hot links and hot dogs every Wednesday night. As a lifetime member of Down Bikers Association charitable events and the Shriners Misfits clubs, he was honored to contribute his time to help people. John became an ordained minister and married several friends and patrons in our community.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Cristina (Iannarilli) Ross; stepmother, Norma Ross; sister, Mona Eaton; daughter, Leslie Ross-Wright and husband, Shane; grandchildren, Jamie Allensworth and Jessie Allensworth; daughter, Rebecca Ross-Cope; grandchildren, Madison Friesenegger, Andrew Cope, Joesef Cope; son, Mitchell Clingenpeel and wife, Morgan; grandchildren, Teagan Haley and Tenley Clingenpeel; daughter, Ashley Ross-Brown and husband, William; grandchildren, Skyler Brown and Ayden John Brown; daughter, Kytona Isabella Ross; son, Jakob Layne Ross; nephew, Chad Eaton and wife, Michelle; great-nieces, Cassandra Eaton, Samantha Eaton, Arial Eaton; great-nephew, Gunner Eaton; niece, Amanda Eaton; great-nephews, Blade Eaton, Hunter Eaton; nieces, Sarah Eaton-Thomison and Cheyenne Thomison; stepbrothers, Mike Lockhart, Jim Long and son, Ethan; along with many, many more friends and loved ones that will never be forgotten.
