Gyle Standford Ross

Oct. 15, 1936 ~ March 19, 2013

Gyle Standford Ross, of Florence, Ariz., formerly of Waukomis, Okla., went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was 76. Gyle was born Oct. 15, 1936, to Noel and Myrtle (Woodson) Ross. He graduated from Waukomis High School in 1954, and later attended Enid Business College. After college, he served in the U.S. Army.

He married Dorothy Harmon early in life and they had one daughter, Dena Darylene Ross. Years later, he married Sherry A. Boone and became a stepfather to four additional children. Gyle was raised in Waukomis and lived there for the majority of his life. He was a true "hometown boy," and was somewhat of a historian of the city.

He also owned and operated an oil field pit liner business for several years, known as Ross Plastics. He could tell the best stories and history of Waukomis. He loved German shepherd dogs and had several throughout his life, with his favorite being named Kiser.

Later, he moved to Florence, Ariz., where one of Gyle's hobbies was collecting and repairing wrist watches. He would "tinker" for hours, taking them apart to use the working parts and create a beautiful new watch. He set up his own booth at the weekly swap meets in Arizona and was known by the locals as the "watchman," because he would replace watch batteries for free. He was a generous man. Gyle could be heard whistling most of the time, and when asked how he was doing by anyone, the reply was always the same; "I'm just WONDERFUL!"

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James N. and Leon W.; daughter, Angela R. Baker; and grandson, Michael Lee Joseph Ross. He is survived by his wife of many years, Sherry Ross; daughters, Dena Ross of Tulsa, Destiny D. Boone of Enid, and Jennifer L. (Boone) Wood of Mountain Home, Ark.; son, Earl Boone of Enid; as well as several cousins, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
