Grace (Slaton) Rose

Sept. 21, 1915 ~ Sept. 22, 2007

Grace Slaton Rose, a long-time resident of Henryetta, was born September 21, 1915, in Caddo, Oklahoma to Charles and Georgia Slaton. She was welcomed by three older brothers, Walter, Emmett, and Clarence. Her life ended peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2007, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where she had resided since December 1999.

Grace attended Ada public schools and in 1937 she graduated from East Central State Teachers College where she majored in education. She married Earl Rose April 27, 1940. Grace taught primary and secondary students for over 40 years. She worked in Wilson, Dewar, and Schulter school systems. She was honored with the award for Okmulgee County "Teacher of the Year" in 1970. Although she retired in May 1980, her love for students and teaching continued and she substituted in the classroom until 1989. Grace and Earl enjoyed sporting events, they were avid Schulter Bulldog and Wilson Tiger fans. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Henryetta, where she was very involved throughout the years. She participated in many areas of the children�s ministry and as an adult Sunday School teacher. She frequently traveled with the FBC �Trotter Toppers� as they explored all areas of the country. She also enjoyed sewing for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil Earl Rose, currently residing in Stillwater; one daughter, Sue Lynne Bonner of Stillwater; one son, Joe Bob Rose, and his wife Carla, of Henryetta; two granddaughters, Tressie, and her husband Darrell Platt, of Bixby; and Amanda Bonner of Tulsa; three great-grandchildren Caroline Rose, Caitlin Marie, and Cade Thomas Platt, all of Bixby.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at the Henryetta First Baptist Church. Condolences may be sent online to sue.bonner@suddenlink.net or to Earl Rose, c/o Sue Bonner at 4626 N. William Court, Stillwater, OK 74075.
