Velma Joy (Reuss) Roberts

July 23, 1936 ~ Jan. 23, 2014

GOLTRY, OK - Memorial service for Velma Joy Roberts will be 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at New Covenant Fellowship, Goltry. Arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. (www.lanmanmemorials.com)

Velma was born July 23, 1936, in Guthrie to Glenn Wesley Reuss and Bertha Meeks Reuss and passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014.

Velma moved to California to continue her nursing, where she met and married Bud Smith. To this union four children were born: Clarence, Charles, Mary and Leslie.

Later, she married Don Roberts and was a mother to his four children. Don and Velma moved to Nebraska to be closer to his mother and help with her care. Don passed away March 24, 2007.

The next year, after several trips to Nebraska to help her, her brother Homer moved her to Goltry, Okla.

Velma was an avid seamstress and did needle work. In her spare time she loved to read. She was always game for anything. She was stubborn, but you knew where you stood with her.

She attended New Covenant Fellowship Church in Goltry. Her church family was very important to her, and she loved being at church.

Velma was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, siblings, Chuck, Glenna, Homer and Della, and one son, Clarence.

She is survived by her children and stepchildren; sister-in-law, Faye Reuss; her special buddy, Aydon Reuss; and numerous nieces and nephews.
