Verna Ray “Hopper” Roberson
July 30, 1932 ~ November 28, 2021

Verna Ray “Hopper” Roberson, 89, of Thackerville, OK passed away on November 28, 2021 at Mercy Health Love County. Hopper was born July 30, 1932 in Thackerville, one of the middle children of Albert Henry and Lula Ethel (Smith) Roberson.

Hopper grew up in Thackerville and graduated from the Thackerville High School in 1950. On July 31, 1951, he joined the United States Navy and was enlisted during Korean and Vietnam conflicts before retiring on August 12, 1970. He proudly served his country for 20 years earning numerous awards to include, five Good Conduct Medals, National Defense with a Bronze Star, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Hopper married his bride of 63 years, Barbara Joan Martin on February 15, 1958 in Great Lakes, IL. They raised their children in several states during their time of military service. Hopper continued his education after his time in the service at Modesto Junior College and Stanislaus State College. He was a lifetime member of the National Association For Uniformed Services, American Bowling Congress, Love County Historical Society, and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. After his retirement, Hopper found much enjoyment in his bowling hobby, his gardening, and sharing the fruits of his gardens with others. Even greater enjoyment was found in each visit he had from those grands!

Those left to carry on his memory are his wife, Barbara Roberson of the home; son, Jon Roberson and wife Sally of McMinnville, TN; daughter, Teresa Le Blanc and husband Jeff of Canton, GA; daughter-in-law, Marie Roberson of Turlock, CA; sister, Bernita June Hayes of Ardmore, OK; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Hopper was also preceded in death by daughter, Karen A. Roberson; son Alan R. Roberson; grandson, Alan R. Roberson, Jr.; and brothers, Al Roberson, Kennith Roberson, and Leamon Roberson.

Services to celebrate the life of Hopper will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Thackerville with Pastor John Straughn and Robby Peyrot assisting. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marietta.
