Menno Levi Regier

Jan. 10, 1916 ~ Sept. 2, 2006

A graveside service will take place at Greenlawn Mortuary, Friday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Menno Regier on Friday, September 8, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Heritabe Bible Church, 2323 Mt. Vernon Ave., Bakersfield, CA. A lunch for friends and family will follow.

Viewing will be at Greenlawn Mortuary on Panorama Drive from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th.

Menno, the youngest of seven children, was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to the Reverend Peter P. Regier and Maria Regier.

When he was sixteen, Menno accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized, and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. Through his life, he remained faithful in his walk with the Lord.

During World War II, he served his country by working on public works projects as a member of the Civilian Conservation Core.

Menno settled in California in 1944 and married Rosie [Nord] Regier in 1946.

Menno did route work until 1963, when he became the first employee of Kernview Mental Hospital. He was named Employee of the Year in 1970 and retired from Kernview in 1983.

Before age and Parkinson's took their toll, Menno took joy in working in his yard, growing flowers, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and berries. He and Rosie had Menno and Rosie's Flowers for many years. Menno and Rosie were a regular fixture at the Farmer's Market every Saturday for ten years.

Menno is survived by his wife, Rosie; three children, Jonathan Regier and his wife, Susan, Rosalyn Malamma and her husband, Kevin, and Rebecca Wilkinson and her husband, Dan; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren, Jonathan Malamma, wife, Lydia, and daughters, Morgan and Leyla; Jordan Scritchfield and husband, Cole; Joel Malamma; Jesse Wilkinson, wife, Courtney, and son, Caedmon; Heidi Wilkinson; and Marc Regier.

Donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee through Heritage Bible Church.
